A National Oil Spill Contingency Plan workshop organized by the Mannar Regional Office of the Marine Environment Protection Authority was held in Mannar recently.  27.10.2022  For this purpose, representatives of the Wildlife Department, Disaster Management Center, Mannar District Secretariat, Central Environment Authority, Sri Lanka Police, Air Force, Navy, Local Council representatives, Forest Conservation Department, Coast Guard and other relevant government agencies and non-governmental organization representatives are present.  participated in  This workshop is organized by the Regional Office of Mannar Marine Environment Protection Authority  had done  The full support for this was given by the World Food Organization and the assistant management officers of the Marine Environment Protection Authority, Nilantha Piyadasa, Nil Priyadarshana, T Sripathy, Prabhat Amaranayake, and the District Marine Environment Officer Mannar Shashi Dharan participated as resource persons in this workshop.  Mr. Janath Hettiarachchi, Disaster Risk Manager, also participated on behalf of the World Food Program.  In the future, there will be awareness workshops on this emergency oil spill plan covering all the districts representing the coastal areas of Sri Lanka.

The second phase of removal of the MV X-Press Pearl has been started by the Shanghai Salvage Institute which is currently carrying out the work. The Maritime Environment Protection Authority has issued instructions to the relevant company to carry out the activities by reducing the marine environment damage and the monitoring of the activities is carried out by the Maritime Environment Protection Authority regularly.

On the theme of National Marine Resources Conservation Week 2022, the International Coastal Cleanup Day was organized by the Mannar District Marine Environment Protection Authority in the areas of Southwar, Keeri,  Nadukuda . Programe was done by
